Place green beans in pot large enough to hold them with some additional space for stirring. Add 1 - 2 inches of water.
Cover and place on stove over medium heat. Bring to a boil. Stir occasionally, cooking until beans are tender and can be cut with edge of spoon, approximately 20 minutes (haricot verts will take less time). Drain and serve.
